Configure DNS for GoMobi accounts

Creating goMobi DNS records

In order to direct web browsers to the goMobi service, you must configure the DNS settings for the domain name to forward the goMobi hostname to the goMobi system.

Note: In these steps the domain name example.com is used to represent the domain name you are using for goMobi.

To create goMobi DNS records

1. Log in to the OpenSRS Control Panel.

2. Click Domains

3. Enter the domain name in the text field, and then click Search. Click the domain name.

4. In the Nameservers section, click Edit, and ensure that Nameserver Provider is set to Use Our Nameservers. If the Nameservers Provider is set to Use Your Own Nameservers, contact the administrators of those servers to set up the domain name’s DNS to use goMobi. The administrators may be your web hosting company.
Important: Changing the Nameserver Provider will take the domain offline, and anything using the domain name on the Internet will stop working. This change may take up to 48 hours to propagate throughout the Internet. You can continue to follow these instructions; however, you may not be able to see your goMobi site until 48 hours have passed.

5. Click Save.

6. In the DNS section, click Edit.

7. In the text box next to Add Sub-Domain, enter the first portion of what you entered in the Mobile Domain section of your goMobi order. For instance, if you entered m.example.com as your Mobile Domain, enter m in this field.

8. Click Add Sub-Domain.

9. From the Add Record drop-down list, choose CNAME.

10. In the Hostname text field, enter lb.gomobi.info.

11. Click Save DNS Settings.

Your goMobi DNS setup is now complete. Remember that your goMobi site may not resolve until the DNS changes have propagated, which can take up to 48 hours.

Forwarding the root domain to goMobi

If you want to forward the root domain name to the goMobi site (for instance, to example.com instead of m.example.com), you need to add an additional record into the DNS configuration that will forward anything based on the domain name to the goMobi service.

To forward the root domain to goMobi

1. Log in to the OpenSRS Control Panel.

2. Click Domains.

3. Enter the domain name in the text field, and then click Search.

4. Click the domain name.

5. In the Nameservers section, click Edit, and ensure that Nameserver Provider is set to Use Our Nameservers. If the Nameserver Provider is set to Use Your Own Nameservers, contact the administrators of those servers to set up the domain names's DNS to use goMobi.
Important: Changing the Nameserver Provider will take the domain name, and anything using the domain name on the Internet will stop working. This change may take up to 48 hours to propagate throughout the Internet. You can continue to follow these instructions; however, you may not be able to see your goMobi site until 48 hours have passed.

6. Click Save.

7. In the DNS section, and click Edit.

8. From the Add Record drop-down list, choose A.

9. Enter 64.99.64.37 in the IP Address field.

10. From the Add Record drop-down list, choose Forward.

11. In the Destination URL field, enter what appeared in the Mobile Domain section when you placed your goMobi order. For instance, if that was m.example.com, enter http://m.example.com in this field.

12. In the Add Sub-Domain text box, enter an asterisk (*) and then click Add Sub-Domain.

13. Locate the row that displays an asterisk in front of your domain name.

14. From the Add Record drop-down list, choose A.

15. Enter 64.99.64.37 in the IP Address field.

16. From the Add Record drop-down list, choose Forward.

17. In the Destination URL field, enter what appeared in the Mobile Domain section when you placed your goMobi order. For instance, if that was m.example.com, enter http://m.example.com in this field.

18. Click Save DNS Settings.

Your domain name is not set up to forward all requests through the goMobi service.
