CalDAV and CardDAV Synchronization with Hosted Email

Hosted email accounts have the ability to synchronize calendars and contacts via CalDAV and CardDAV.

CalDAV

CalDAV synchronizes calendar data across different devices and is available through your hosted email account. It utilizes Apple’s iCalendar format and is compatible with Android, Gmail, Mac OS X, iOS 5+, Outlook, and Thunderbird. 

Note: If your domain doesn't have an SSL certificate, you will get a warning during setup. If you still want to add the CalDAV account, accept the warning and continue.

Caldav setup for iOS

Once you have set this service up events in your webmail calendars will be visible in the calendar app on your device. Any changes made in webmail will show up on your device with a refresh.

  1. Open Settings and select Calendars.
  2. Tap Account followed by Add Account.
  3. Select Other.
  4. Choose Add CalDAV Account.
  5. Complete all the required fields, then press Next
    Server

    Enter mail.yourdomain.com or check with your email administrator for this information

    User Name Enter your email address.
    Password Enter your email password.
    Description It will be auto-populated with what was entered in the Server field. You can modify the field if you want. 

CalDAV Setup for Android

You can use one of two apps to set up a CalDAV account on your Android device: DAVx and Open Sync. 
Note: DAVx5 and OpenSync can add CardDAV and CalDAV at the same time.

Open DAVx setup

After setting up Open DAVx you can see the calendars in the Google Calendar app or any other app that supports CalDAV functionality.

  1. Add New Account.
  2. Select Login with URL and username
    Base URL

    mail.yourdomain.com/caldav/youremailaddress (or check with your email administrator for this information.)

    Username Enter your email address.
    Password Enter your email password.

  3. Tap Next.
  4. Select Calendar you want to sync

OpenSync setup

After setting up OpenSync you can see the calendars in the Google Calendar app or any other app that supports CalDAV functionality.

  1. Add New Account.
  2. Select Login with URL and username
    Base URL

    https://mail.yourdomain.com/caldav/youremailaddress (or check with your email administrator for this information.)

    Username Enter your email address.
    Password Enter your email password.

  3. Tap Next.
  4. Select Calendar you want to sync

CardDAV

CardDAV synchronizes contact data across different devices and is also available through your hosted email account. It is compatible with Android, Gmail, Mac OS X, iOS 5+, Outlook, Thunderbird, and other platforms. Similar to exporting/importing of vCards, this functionality synchronizes all your contact data, including individual contacts and groups.

Note: If your domain doesn't have an SSL certificate, you will get a warning during setup. If you still want to add the CardDAV account, accept the warning and continue.

CardDAV Setup for iOS

After setting up CarDAV your webmail contacts will now appear in the contacts app along with any groups. Any changes made in webmail will show up on your device with a refresh.

  1. Open Settings and select Contacts.
  2. Tap Account followed by Add Account.
  3. Choose Add CardDAV Account.
  4. Complete all the required fields then press Next.
    Server

CardDAV Setup for Android

OpenSync setup

After setting up OpenSync you can see the contacts in the Google Calendar app or any other app that supports CalDAV functionality.

  1. Add New Account.
  2. Select Login with URL and username
    Base URL

    https://mail.yourdomain.com/caldav/youremailaddress (or check with your email administrator for this information.)

    Username Enter your email address.
    Password Enter your email password.

  3. Tap Next.

Alternative Hostnames

When you configure CalDAV or CardDAV, you can use your own domain name in the URL or use the alternative hostname for your email cluster

Cluster  Alternate hostname
Cluster A emailhome.com
Cluster B mailconfig.net

Suppose you use these alternate hostnames to make sure to enter full URLs during set up. For example, use https://mail.emailhome.com rather than mail.emailhome.com. This is required because of the SSL certificate.
